Of course, we are saved by grace, and not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). But does it mean we have nothing to do? No, we have to do something. Not Works, but to - Receive It! In Romans, Paul gave very clear instructions on how one can be saved.
Two Steps To Be Saved
Believe in our Hearts
Confess with our Mouths
Romans 10:10. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
What to Believe and Confess?
The following 3 points are central to Christian beliefs, and have been repeatedly mentioned many times in the Bible.
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God
Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and was raised after three days from the dead
Jesus is our Lord and our Savior
Romans 10:9. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
John 20:31. But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Believers' Prayer
When you have made up your decision to follow Jesus and become a Christian, confess your faith by saying the following prayer. You can pray in whatever wordings you prefer, but the prayer must include the following 3 points:
I, xxx, believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God
I, xxx, believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and He was raised after three days from the dead. All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Him.
I, xxx, accept Jesus as my Lord and my Savior.
Two Important Points to Note:
"Believe in your Heart and Confess with your Mouth" means you must mean what you say. In other words, when you say the Believers' Prayer, you must truly believe in every word you say.
Since you have now confessed that Jesus is your Lord, you must submit yourself to Him in every decision you are going to make. Study the Bible, and learn to hear the "still small voice" in your spirit. Prove it with your actions that Jesus is your Lord by following Christ, and not professionals, authoritative figures, your loved ones, or even your own flesh. (See my blog "I Have Difficulty Making Decisions".) This is the part most people miss. Once you are saved, you cannot live in the same way you did before. Unless you learn how to follow Jesus, you will not be able to grow your faith and build your relationship with Him. This comes with practice, so start now after saying your Believers' Prayer. This is the fastest way to grow as a Christian!
